LITERATURE

» Full Dark, No Stars - Stephen King's new novella questions mankind's ability to trust others.

MUSIC

» The Top 30 Albums of 2010 - Fashionably, fabulously late, our favorite music (and believe me, there was a LOT) of 2010, the year that some have called the best year for music ever. And only some of those fools work here. Plenty of usual suspects, lots of ties and a few surprises that I won't spoil, including our unexpected #1.

MUSIC

» Live: Surfer Blood/The Drums at Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL - Remember when Weezer used to put together records that you could sing along to and rock out to? That's what Surfer Blood's show was like!

Name: Tom Nash

Position: LAS Contributor

Location: Vienna, VA

Biography: HOBBIES/INTERESTS/FREETIME ACTIVITIES: Played in a band, trying to form a new one, journalism, making a movie, walking, photography, sticking chewed gum under the door handles of large SUVs.

WRITING JOBS FOR LAS: I do rock music. I can do enviroment. I can do news. I can do a column about stupid things that I see while I live in this suburban hell hole - American flags in the shape of a soccer ball placed on Ford Excursions being driven by a 40 year olds who are talking on cell phones. Oh, and all my clothes are apparently "vintage" now and are very trendy and people pay obscene amounts of money for shirts that say things like "Shaw's Lobster Wharf" in Urban Outfitters or wherever when I got mine for 5 bucks at Shaw's Lobster Wharf.

TEN DESERT ISLAND DISCS:
Modest Mouse- Lonesome Crowded West
Dinosaur Jr. - Yr Living All Over Me
Screaming Trees- Dust
Pavement- Wowee Zowee
Sonic Youth- Murray St.
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command
Meat Puppets - Too High To Die
Mudhoney- March to Fuzz (best of disc)

CURRENT INFATUATION / HEAVY ROTATION: Franz Ferdinand, Dogma, The Papers and The Papers (about Pentagon vs NY
Times), Diet Coke, hanging out in basements, planning to make a film but
every time you go out to shoot it the battery dies even though you just
charged it.

FIVE FAVORITE BANDS: Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, Pavement, Modest Mouse,
Screaming Trees

FIVE FAVORITE FILMS/FILMMAKERS: Snatch, Gladiator, Dogma, Pulp Fiction

FIVE FAVORITE BOOKS/AUTHORS: "A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich", "We"
(book that Orwell totally ripped off to write 1984), Michael Azzerad,
"Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man", "Pedro Paramo"

FIVE FAVORITE ARTISTS: Sonic Youth, Paul Shoemaker...I'm pretty uncultured so I would put other
favorite bands here.

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO TAKE LAS/WHERE DO YOU WANT LAS TO TAKE YOU: I want to help it be more widely read than Pitchfork.

MOST MEMORABLE LIFE EXPERIENCE: Wouldn't know what to put here yet. Perhaps being editor of my high school's newspaper. I'm a huge geek.

SUM YOURSELF UP IN ONE SENTECE: I would get a tatoo that says "Sonic Life," but I'm afraid of needles.
