» Full Dark, No Stars - Stephen King's new novella questions mankind's ability to trust others.

» The Top 30 Albums of 2010 - Fashionably, fabulously late, our favorite music (and believe me, there was a LOT) of 2010, the year that some have called the best year for music ever. And only some of those fools work here. Plenty of usual suspects, lots of ties and a few surprises that I won't spoil, including our unexpected #1.

» Live: Surfer Blood/The Drums at Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL - Remember when Weezer used to put together records that you could sing along to and rock out to? That's what Surfer Blood's show was like!

As the American front to the old world, New York's music scene has been putting on quite a show over the past two years. As the report of Calla, The Rapture and Interpol rings out from the Big Apple, John Spencer's sister Muffin hooks up with a dance-savvy mind from over the pond Manchester and releases a gritty urban club album for the dance-punk crowd who like some rump shakin' ass on the bottom of their bed-head indie rock hair. Funky 80's style bass lines drench the tight glitches and scratches that (like a great Nissan commercial) pump in perfect time for both Euro style track lights and snotty Beastie Boys-meets-Rapture-meets-Basement Jaxx party mixes. You can crank songs like the opener "Hit 'Em Hard" from the speakers of a hip import car or a smokey night spot - you just have to make sure that your shoes match your outfit when you're doing it. Gettin' Wise is recommended for danse-party fans of Michael Jackson's Thriller or The Dismemberment Plan's more Top-40 Moments.
