» Full Dark, No Stars - Stephen King's new novella questions mankind's ability to trust others.

» The Top 30 Albums of 2010 - Fashionably, fabulously late, our favorite music (and believe me, there was a LOT) of 2010, the year that some have called the best year for music ever. And only some of those fools work here. Plenty of usual suspects, lots of ties and a few surprises that I won't spoil, including our unexpected #1.

This isn't too bad. Again, this type of music really isn't my thing, but I can deal with this. Far more tasteful and well-written than label-mate Heidi Sapperstein, Rosa Chance Well sounds remarkably similar to Liz Phair and/or Suzanne Vega. I'm sure had this band existed a decade ago, they would have enjoyed a similar level of success. I can't really say anything too terribly good about Rosa Chance Well, because I really don't think they're doing anything that hasn't already been done before. They're good at what they do, though, and they make some good, solid slacker-girl pop. I call it "slacker" because the vocalist has that same dry, half-assed, just-woke-up-and-really-don't-feel-like-singing vocal style made popular in 90s by Vega and the hipster ice-queen of sarcasm-land herself, the divine Miss Phair. If I seem a bit harsh on Phair, it's only because I used to live in a house with four girls, and was thus subjected to downright inhumane doses of Phair's so-called "wit". Fortunately, Rosa Chance Well manages to capture the slacker spirit of Phair's most bearable work while leaving behind the "I'm so witty" smugness.
