» Full Dark, No Stars - Stephen King's new novella questions mankind's ability to trust others.

» The Top 30 Albums of 2010 - Fashionably, fabulously late, our favorite music (and believe me, there was a LOT) of 2010, the year that some have called the best year for music ever. And only some of those fools work here. Plenty of usual suspects, lots of ties and a few surprises that I won't spoil, including our unexpected #1.

» Live: Surfer Blood/The Drums at Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL - Remember when Weezer used to put together records that you could sing along to and rock out to? That's what Surfer Blood's show was like!

Andrea Zollo resists all Sleater-Kinney comparisons, according to All Music Guide, with her current and extraordinarily pleasing and popular band, Pretty Girls Make Graves. If she really wanted to make her point, all she would have to do is point out her work with mid-nineties Seattle hardcore outfit, Death Wish Kids. This band also features Derek Fudesco and Dan Galluchi, also members of Murder City Devils and Pretty Girls Make Graves. The band's two 7" singles, released on Hopscotch Records originally, are contained here: one released in '95 (There's Nothing in School They Can't Teach You on the Streets) and a demo release from '99 (Demo Recordings), containing songs that were recorded in '94.

In just under thirteen minutes, Death Wish Kids blaze through raucous and energetic hardcore, Zollo screaming her head off in consistent badass girl stance. With lines like "No, I don't feel nothing from the sauce/ Carved hate and fuck into my arm," and "I'll fuck your shit up/You wanna see some action/I'll wipe that smile off your face," Zollo succinctly and bluntly gets her youthful messages across. The music is basic, run of the mill hardcore, machine gun drumming backed by walls of power chords, with wailing feedback and high-pitched squealing guitars hinting at things to come. Discography is a raw and potent look back at the roots of some musicians that made it big and continue to make it bigger in more developed and intricate bands. Fans of Pretty Girls Make Graves, Murder City Devils, and punk rock in general should take note.
