» Full Dark, No Stars - Stephen King's new novella questions mankind's ability to trust others.

» The Top 30 Albums of 2010 - Fashionably, fabulously late, our favorite music (and believe me, there was a LOT) of 2010, the year that some have called the best year for music ever. And only some of those fools work here. Plenty of usual suspects, lots of ties and a few surprises that I won't spoil, including our unexpected #1.

» Live: Surfer Blood/The Drums at Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL - Remember when Weezer used to put together records that you could sing along to and rock out to? That's what Surfer Blood's show was like!

Destination: Beautiful

It's driving down a sun-drenched highway with your windows rolled down and your radio turned up. It's stealing road signs on a summer night with friends you've known since you were five. It's all the simple things that make life beatiful. Mae's first album Destination: Beautiful is not on the way to beautiful; it's there.

Often classified as emo, Mae sets itself apart from bands such as Dashboard Confessional or Taking Back Sunday with the clear, simple vocals of Dave Gimenez. Mae's sound is more closely related to that of All American Rejects. Destination: Beautiful is one of those CDs where you can listen to it straight through; the album seems to flow together. Such songs as "Summertime", "Embers and Envelopes", and "Skyline Drive" keep the CD in your stereo for months and their lyrics in your mind for even longer. The lyrics are emotionally driven and often poetic, such as "Sometimes I drive or ride with my eyes closed tight/ because if the skyline looks this way/ then I don't want to sleep tonight." from "Skyline Drive". This CD about summer nights keeps summer in your heart during the coldest of winters, and reminds you of the times in your life that have added up to make it worthwhile.
