MUSIC

» The Top 30 Albums of 2010 - Fashionably, fabulously late, our favorite music (and believe me, there was a LOT) of 2010, the year that some have called the best year for music ever. And only some of those fools work here. Plenty of usual suspects, lots of ties and a few surprises that I won't spoil, including our unexpected #1.

One of my earliest memories is from when I lived in Guilford, Connecticut, when I was two years old. We lived in a little house near the water with a long backyard and at the end of the yard was a tiny pond that was home to a family of turtles. It fascinated me that I lived so close to these animals that were totally wild but would always be there whenever I went looking for them. Matt Pond PA, however goofy this might sound, is the kind of soundtrack I need to help me appreciate and pine over these faded early memories.

At work on Saturday, somebody asked me what band I would choose to be my personal soundtrack that would follow me around and play my theme music. No band could ever really be justifiable, but as far as being nostalgic and alone, Matt Pond PA might just be it. It reminds me of Bright Eyes in a lot of ways. A guy with touching, almost haunting vocals playing guitar backed up by heavy cellos and other various, well orchestrated instruments. It might sound light and unassuming, but you can totally get yourself worked up into it cause Matt Pond PA cares. Just kidding. So yeah, good good good.
