» Full Dark, No Stars - Stephen King's new novella questions mankind's ability to trust others.

» The Top 30 Albums of 2010 - Fashionably, fabulously late, our favorite music (and believe me, there was a LOT) of 2010, the year that some have called the best year for music ever. And only some of those fools work here. Plenty of usual suspects, lots of ties and a few surprises that I won't spoil, including our unexpected #1.

Alas, some good new music has graced my ears. This refreshing release from Volta Do Mar and Murder By Death hasn't left my stereo in 3 days. It travels with me in my car, its playing when I mm going to sleep, and the melodies are looping through the inner recesses of my brain at any chance they get. This is the kind of music that you can throw in at any time and enjoy it, and that says a lot. Bottom line, this is some good music indeed.

Volta Do Mar start off the disc with some very atmospheric sounding, mid-tempo meanderings that pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the album. Bare in mind though, this precedent is not a bad thing by any means. That is partly why this release is so good, it's digestible. Next up, Murder By Death brings a definite horror movie vibe to the album, which is very interesting. Using violins, piano, and striking lyrics, Murder By Death are striving for something very cool here.

Standout tracks like "Search Lights Burn the Cornfields Bright", "A Masters in Reverse Psychology", "On A Hand Held Sky", and "Knife Goes In, Guts Come Out" show that these two bands are on the route to becoming quite great. I'll just sit back, listen to this album, and wait to hear what comes next.
