» Blood into Wine - Any big fan of Maynard James Keenan knows that the Tool/A Perfect Circle/Puscifer frontman has been living a double life for the past several years as a winemaker/entrepreneur. But seeing as the charismatic Keenan is not the most media-friendly of musicians, it's a rare feat to get an in-depth glimpse into what the man's other passion project entails.[08.26.2010 by Kiran Aditham]

» Missed the Boat #6: Supergroups and Solo Surprises - In a time when more albums than ever are being made and fewer publications can afford to exist, more gatekeepers than ever are needed to separate the wheat from the chaff. PA Kane
?
August 28, 1998
Not really a reading book, but a worthy publication none the less. Most of the punk rock kids probably recognize the name Chrissy Piper and may even recognize the name PA Kane. Piper has been photographing punk bands for a long time and Paul Kane used to operate his Freewill Records imprint out of the Double Entendre record store in Denver. Along with setting up underground indie, emo and punk shows in Denver, Kane was one of the first people to release music by Christie Front Drive, a band with an influence that far exceeds the scope of its sales numbers.
This book contains 77 photos of everyone from the Promise Ring to the Rollins band, Neurosis to Hoover, Joan of Arc to Avail and a bunch of Fugazi. It's pretty obvious from the shots in The Unheard Music that Piper knows how to handle a camera, and this mini-portfolio presents everything from live shots to portraits. All the photos are in black and white and the book is very well done in a professional manner and not the slap-together kind of job you might expect from people associated with the punk rock scene. An A all around on this one.
