» Full Dark, No Stars - Stephen King's new novella questions mankind's ability to trust others.

» The Top 30 Albums of 2010 - Fashionably, fabulously late, our favorite music (and believe me, there was a LOT) of 2010, the year that some have called the best year for music ever. And only some of those fools work here. Plenty of usual suspects, lots of ties and a few surprises that I won't spoil, including our unexpected #1.

» Live: Surfer Blood/The Drums at Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL - Remember when Weezer used to put together records that you could sing along to and rock out to? That's what Surfer Blood's show was like!

Yes, Erasure are back with another collection of pop. Loveboat was released in the United Kingdom back in 2000 and has only now made it to North America; their most recent release, Other People's Songs, a covers album, came out in January. I have to admit, I have a bit of a weakness for Erasure, thanks to an 80s childhood where I spent too many afternoons listening to "A Little Respect." The good news is, Vince Clarke and Andy Bell still know how to write good pop songs. The bad news is, they are continuing to explore some new directions, bringing in the occasional almost-techno ("Moon & the Sky," not the most successful of tracks, but definitely danceable), plenty of ballads ("Where in the World" is nice, "Alien" not so good), which takes away from my nostalgic bliss a bit. Thankfully, there are plenty of great dancy-pop songs, among them "Crying in the Rain" and "Here in My Heart." "Love Is the Rage" has some intriguing glitch moments, while "Surreal" resembles what might happen if Autechre laid down some beats and had some balladeers sing along on top, later skewing into a synth-harmonic lullaby. Worth a listen, if you're a fan or wishing you could go back to the days when Loveboat was a TV show.
