» Full Dark, No Stars - Stephen King's new novella questions mankind's ability to trust others.

» The Top 30 Albums of 2010 - Fashionably, fabulously late, our favorite music (and believe me, there was a LOT) of 2010, the year that some have called the best year for music ever. And only some of those fools work here. Plenty of usual suspects, lots of ties and a few surprises that I won't spoil, including our unexpected #1.

» Live: Surfer Blood/The Drums at Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL - Remember when Weezer used to put together records that you could sing along to and rock out to? That's what Surfer Blood's show was like!

Bluetip have always been somewhat of a musical misnomer in my ears, belying the post-pre-punk aesthetic of their big brothers Fugazi with all the cocky head weaving and wrist snapping guitar chords of a west coast alt-rock outfit. They've been around for seemingly ever yet have gone seemingly nowhere, sounding as much like Everclear playing Jawbox now as they did back on Dischord 101.

I could watch Bluetip burn on stage for hours on end without tiring and have often done as much, only to drive home pacified by the ringing of amplifiers in my ears, never so much as looking for my dusty copy of Join Us. Are they masters of mid-range with an undeniable punch? Yes. Are they a good band with a dependable stable of songs and a solid reputation? Yes. Are they everyman's dealer of the rock? Yes. They are all of those things but, like their brethren in Burning Airlines, they are playing everything I've heard before. These five tracks, recorded by rock nepotist J Robbins during the sessions for their fall long player on Dischord, are lithographic Bluetip: great while you're listening to it but quick to fade from memory.
