» Full Dark, No Stars - Stephen King's new novella questions mankind's ability to trust others.

» The Top 30 Albums of 2010 - Fashionably, fabulously late, our favorite music (and believe me, there was a LOT) of 2010, the year that some have called the best year for music ever. And only some of those fools work here. Plenty of usual suspects, lots of ties and a few surprises that I won't spoil, including our unexpected #1.

» Live: Surfer Blood/The Drums at Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL - Remember when Weezer used to put together records that you could sing along to and rock out to? That's what Surfer Blood's show was like!

"There are machines made by men in laboratories which, when injected with radioactive isotopes of lasting duration, are able to perform incredible feats of speed and agility. ANYWAY live is not unlike one of those secret-agent-man contraptions flying apart at the seams. Four snorting engines revved up, dials in the red, cutting loose a wild 35-minute loop-de-loop of nitrocellulose-based velocity. When you ride with ANYWAY it is always best to keep arms and legs well secured inside the vehicle" - from the Anyway biography.

So many Eastern European aggro bands. So many Eastern European aggro bands with influences like Fugazi, The Delta 72, Guzzard, Mudhoney, Circus Lupus, Husker Du.

If the previous two paragraphs sound like anything you might say at all, ever, you might as well have heard Anyway. If not the band itself - from their two previous 7" splits with Mama and Point, respectively, or on the My Time is Over Compilation - then something a hell of a lot like it. In short, you've heard more or less all you need to hear. Golf Club is intense, driving, energetic, and often kind of angry, akin to System of a Down playing garage rock, with lyrics ranging from political ("Hey children if I killed for you/ would you keep the peace a day or two?/ Liberation so called/ revolution so called/ hey children if I lied for you/ would you overlook that a day or two?/ Constitutions so called/ institutions so strong") to I-don't-know what "I'm a TV gangster/ I'm a horror monster/ I'm an asshole fucker/ I'm a baby killer/ so rather get out of my way/ I'm the greatest lover/ I'm an iron tower…sister she sucks my cock at three."

Just for the latter lyric sample (from "homeboy"), most people would call this album pretty lame. But, luckily for Anyway, I'm not calling this album lame for that reason alone. One thing doesn't hurt an album. Its just that there are a lot of bands that are like "one of those secret-agent-man contraptions flying apart at the seams," and to make a mark, Anyway will have to do something a bit more interesting with their sophomore release.
