» Full Dark, No Stars - Stephen King's new novella questions mankind's ability to trust others.

» The Top 30 Albums of 2010 - Fashionably, fabulously late, our favorite music (and believe me, there was a LOT) of 2010, the year that some have called the best year for music ever. And only some of those fools work here. Plenty of usual suspects, lots of ties and a few surprises that I won't spoil, including our unexpected #1.

» Live: Surfer Blood/The Drums at Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL - Remember when Weezer used to put together records that you could sing along to and rock out to? That's what Surfer Blood's show was like!

The last time I remember hearing Cerberus Shoal, I remember having been struck by... well, what crap it was. Pseudo-Wannabe Art-Gallery-Opening music.

Now, when Stereolab worked with artist Charles Long on the Amorphous Body Center, THAT was moving.

This comes... nowhere close. From the cover art and the chanting on down to the slide whistle that once punctuated our favorite cartoons when we were kids, the overall feel I get from this release (the first since Tarpigh's departure) is that they are grasping towards some higher concept of enlightenment, some artistic ideal lofty as the heavens... If that's the case, then they've failed. This is still crap.

If Tarpigh's having left was supposed to be some sort of statement, a furtherance of "the concept behind all that 'is' Cerberus Shoal", great. Maybe then I'd have a little respect. But if not, then leaving this alone was an enlightened decision.
